The Real Reason You Fall Off Track During the Week
If you find yourself skipping breakfast or lunch (or both), this might be the reason you find yourself going way off track multiple times per week.
Even as a professional nutrition coach, with years of knowledge and experience, I am not immune to the consequences of missing meals.
In fact I ran into this problem just 3 days ago.
My wife and I just had our second child, our daughter Winnie, 1 week ago.
On Saturday, I spent most of the day with my son Carter while my wife rested at home with the new baby.
Due to running around with him most of the day and trying to keep up with his energy, I only ate when he ate. So by late afternoon, I had only eaten about 1000 calories.
I decided to “save” those calories for dinner, knowing we would likely be ordering out or enjoying some Mother’s Day weekend treats.
However, we ended up cooking dinner at home, and made a healthy balanced meal of pork tenderloin, potatoes, and asparagus.
No big deal, right?
However, after eating my full plate, I found myself still hungry. So when it was time for cake, I was not in a mindful eating headspace.
I ended up eating 2 big ass slices of chocolate cake with vanilla frosting fresh from a great local bakery.
Now, this ONE instance isn’t a huge deal by any means.
But it shows how even someone who is consistent with protein and balanced meals daily, can be bit by the indulgence bug very easily when I’ve skipped meals.
On the contrary, the following day, I ate all 4 of my normal meals and said “no” to the same delicious cake after dinner because I was full.
Let this serve as a reminder:
You are not addicted to sugar.
You do not have a sweet tooth.
You are likely just under eating or skipping meals too often.
The solution is simpler than you might think:
1.) Base your day around 3-4 balanced meals
2.) Aim to get 30-40g of protein at each meal
3.) Try not to go more than 4 hours without at least having a protein snack like a shake or beef jerky
And if this is a big struggle for you, it may be a good idea to reach out for help.
