Why Your Quick-Fix Diets No Longer Work For You

Ever wondered why diets that once helped you drop weight fast no longer work?

You’re not alone.

Many adults find themselves returning to the tactics that worked for them years ago, only to discover that those same methods now fall flat.

It’s frustrating when you double down on your efforts, stay consistent, and yet see no progress. What gives?

Let me break it down:

Initially, hopping on a new diet can often lead to quick wins because your body hasn’t yet adapted to these new demands.

But here’s what most people overlook:

Adaptation: Just as your body adapts to the new diet, your nutrition strategies can also become less effective as circumstances evolve.

Life’s Natural Hurdles: Factors like age, stress, schedule, sleep can alter the effectiveness of your past strategies.

Chronic Stressors: Whether it’s calorie restriction in dieting or overworking in business, long-term stress can lead to negative adaptations like losing lean muscle, drops in energy, and lack of recovery all which decrease the number of calories you are capable of burning.

The truth is, your body remembers the stress it underwent and reacts more quickly to familiar stressors. What was once a new challenge is now something it prepares to defend against more rapidly.

For example, let’s say back in 2013 you tried Keto for 3 months and lost 20lbs.

During that time, you lost muscle & water mostly, and then you put back on 25lbs once you released the handcuffs of keto.

Your body now takes note:

“Keto is dangerous. It makes us drop weight too fast. If this happens again, we need to be prepared to hold on to weight”

So, what’s the solution?

Switch up your approach: Instead of pushing harder in the same direction, consider signaling safety instead of stress. This could mean:

– Eating enough calories to support muscle instead of just haphazardly decreasing calories.

– Set a realistic workout schedule that is based around time tested exercises that get results. Ditch the unnecessary YouTube follow along HIIT workouts, and start training in a way that allows for recovery.

– Adjust your approach based on your current lifestyle not your decade ago lifestyle. You are busier, more stressed, and have more responsibility nowadays. So your program should take that into account.

This is literally the steps I take my clients through as they start coaching.

My advice to you this week would be to get clear on exactly what your end of 2024 fitness goals are. (not just your emotional short term goal).

List out the current life hurdles that you know will make achieving this goal harder, and base your program/plan around those hurdles instead of ignoring them.

As always, if you need help getting started, I am just an email away.
